Mathematical Models – Spring 2011
Presenting Monday, May 16, 2011 from 10:50–12:05 in the President's Conference Room 2:

B. Wong: The relationship between economic growth and unemployment rates
We model the relationship between unemployment and economic growth. The four variables used in the models are unemployment rate, economic growth, change in unemployment rates, and change in economic growth.

B. Khoker, Y. Lin, M. Park: Don't let your money fly away before you do
We model airline ticket prices over a three month period to predict the best time to buy a cheap ticket

B. Cao, C. Hatzigeorgiou, S. Weiss: Mathematical Modeling on Trains
We create a model to determine the expected duration of a subway trip based on number of stops, number of transfers, and distance between starting location and final destination.

Presenting Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 10:50–12:05 in the President's Conference Room 2:

D. Screen, T. Tibball, M. Wenz: What affects college tuition
The goal of this project is to determine which variable, either the academic rating or total number of students enrolled, has the greatest impact on determining the cost of tuition. We also aim to determine whether the location of a school affects the cost of tuition.

A. Carravetta, J. Guambana, K. Kelly: Modeling Baseball's Attendance
We will determine which factor---among number of wins in the current season, number of wins in the previous season, city population, and payroll---is the best indicator for a baseball team's cumulative season attendance.

M. Huang, G. Kim, Y. Liu: Cows vs. Cars: Greenhouse Gases
We will analyze and compare the contributions to greenhouse gases from both cows and cars.

Presenting Monday, May 23, 2011 from 11:00am–1:00pm in the President's Conference Room 2:

J. Casella, G. Guerrero, D. Schaefer: Effect of baseball practice on athlete's reaction time
We determine whether there is a difference in the reaction times between non-athletes, athletes before practice, and athletes after practice.

C. Wu, D. Xu: How does the education budget affect the quality of secondary education in New York State?
We determine the relationship between the New York State public secondary education budget and the quality of secondary education in New York State.

S. Meyer, M. Tecson, C. Voigt, R. Wessel: How teacher dedication affects learning
We create a teacher dedication score and develop a model to determine the relationship between teacher dedication and student productivity.

P. Balkaran, F. Kamal, A. Sookhoo: Wish list connect
We develop models to help an individual determine his or her most appropriate cellular service and device.
