                        Studying the mechanism of action of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in mediating

                                             inflammation after sympathetic compromise.

                        Studying the biochemical and morphological properties of a potential trk B agonist using the

                                             SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cell line

                        Analyzed the entorhinal cortex neuroanatomy of mice deficient in Heparin Binding-Growth

                                             Associated Molecule (HB-GAM).

02/09-10/09      Zucker Hillside Hospital of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, Volunteer

                                              Responsible for co-leading mental health rehabilitation groups under the supevision of  a

                                            therapist, assisting individual patients during groups, providing feedback to the therapist after                                             each group session and assisting with office duties.

                   Animal care and breeding, surgeries, injections, and sacrifices; tissue collection and dissection;                  basic and immunohistochemical histology; Western Blotting; standard and confocal microscopy; basic

                 knowledge of cell culture, an advanced scientific software for brain mapping (Neurolucida) and the statistical

                 package for Windows (SPSS).

Research Interests:

                   Mechanisms mediating neuroinflammation and general inflammation; the effect of neurotrophic                 factors in inflammation across time; neuroanatomical changes resulting from inflammation;

                neurodegeneration as a result of induced inflammation; peripheral changes following inflammation.

                Relationship between autoimmunity, BDNF and various psychiatric disorders.
